[Newly Forged Sword] Noshu-jū Hiromune / Auspicious Day in July, Reiwa 6 (2024)

Swordsmith Takaba Hiromune (real name: Hiroshi Takaba) resides in Seki City, Gifu Prefecture.
Born in 1954 (Showa 29), he began his apprenticeship under his father, swordsmith Takaba Makoto, in 1973 (Showa 48). In 1978 (Showa 53), he was officially licensed to forge swords. That same year, he made his first entry in the Newly Made Masterpiece Sword Exhibition hosted by the Society for Preservation of Japanese Art Swords, where he was accepted. Since then, he has received numerous awards, including one Special Prize, two Excellence Prizes, and four Effort Prizes.

From the beginning of his training, he has aimed to master the Soshu-den style of Shizu Saburo Kaneuji, and today he is recognized as one of the leading contemporary swordsmiths of Seki.

This sword was newly forged in 2024 (Reiwa 6) as an iaidō practice sword. Our company further refined it with grooves (hi) carved into the blade and specially crafted mountings (koshirae). The blade is well balanced, produces a clear sound, and all fittings are newly made. It has been completed as a sword we can confidently recommend.
